Liver and Gallbladder

The liver is inferior to the diaphragm. It is largest on the right side of the body. The right and left lobes are separated by the falciform ligament. The falciform ligament stabilizes the position of the liver relative to the diaphragm and abdominal wall. The caudate (superior) and quadrate (inferior) lobes are in the posterior midline. Blood vessels and ducts are in-between these two small, posterior lobes.

The gallbladder lies in a pocket to the right of the quadrate lobe. It stores bile and contracts and squirts bile into the common bile duct. The common bile duct carries bile from the gallbladder and liver to the duodenum.
